Croatia

Settled by the Croats in the 7th century, two principalities were initially formed, Dalmatia and Pannonia. Although this create a strong initial settlement and functioning government, It wasn't until around 850 when the first dynasty was founded, the Trpimirović dynasty. Thanks to the dynasty's strong foundation, it helped to strengthen the Dalmatian population and , together with the Pannonia principality, in 925 became a kingdom, under the rule of King Tomislav.

Unions of the people

In 1102, Croatia entered into a personal union with the Hungarian kingdom, lasting many centuries. From 1918-1929, Croatia was part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. From 1929-194, it was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. After the period from 1941-1945, following the victory of the allies in WWII, Croatia became an independent Republic within Yugoslavia.

Independence at last!

In 1991, Croatia declared it's independence from Yugoslavia and a costly war took place between the Croats and the Yugoslav peoples army, led by the Serbs. The war finally came to an end in 1995 with signing of the Dayton agreement.
